According to The National Academy of Sports Medicine and Kim Christensen, DC, DACRB, CCSP, CSCS "The main premise behind core training is to increase the body's ability to stabilize itself, especially the spinal region. Exercises have been conjured up from the past, new exotic exercises are being created daily, and equipment is being engineered all for the sole purpose of core training. While this is all well and good, we must ask ourselves the following:
|
|
"If the core is not working in the manner for which it was created, are we doing more harm than good?"
|
| You only have one chance to make a 1st Impression - Improve your posture
Like it or not, we are both judged and judge others by their posture. The Baseline program will retrain your body to stand up straight no matter what your age. |
|
Our bodies are designed to be symmetrical and balanced; and when your muscles are out of balance your performance is will be restricted you are subject to injury and your posture will be out of alignment.
|
| "Correct your postural alignment and all exercise and sports will become a million times easier and more fun." Paul D'Arezzo M.D., author of Functional Fitness and Posture Alignment |
| "All movement originates from your spine; it is the core movement axis that controls and stabilizes your body (foundation). Without this "balanced" foundation your body will be unstable, subject to injury, and not able to perform to its maximum capability. An unbalanced foundation will cause structural wear and tear on the joints and spine starting with aches and pains and eventually affecting physical mobility." |
Your alignment doesn't have to be dramatically off for it to have a considerable effect on your function, in fact in most cases it is not detectable by the human eye, however there are other tell-tale signs:
|
Look Better, Feel Better, Perform Better |
| Gravity pulls on our body 24/7 causing our posture to slump as we age. Most of our physical activities during the day such as sitting at a desk or driving causes our muscles to shorten. When we participate in activities such as sports, fitness training, strength training and aerobics we cause our muscles to contract and flex and this action causes them to shorten. This inherent problem is exacerbated as we age or when we perform repetitive activities at work and play. As our muscles shorten they become more susciptable to injury and injured muscles lead to joint degeneration. This does not have to happen...You can easily prevent it! , |

| Don't look like this |
|
|
| A misaligned posture is the first visable warning sign that your muscles are out of balance and when they are out of balance it is a medical fact you will not achieve your maximum performance. |
| When you can look like this! |
|
|
Unfortunately when a weakness is detected by our body it automatically compensates rather than self-correcting. Your body will start favoring the stronger movement patterns avoiding the weaker ones thereby increasing the out of balance condition. This is especially true if you participate in a sporting activity where one side is dominant or if you are doing isolated strength and resistance training.
When your muscles are balanced and are able to retain their natural resting length they store "strain-energy" which allows them to spring into action when recruited for any activity such as lifting or bending or golf, tennis, martial arts, running or cycling.
When your body is out of balance it will remain out of balance until it is corrected. Random exercise will only worsen the imbalance.
The longer the body remains out of balance the more habitual the misalignment becomes and the more vulnerable you will be to injury.
At first many of these imbalances go undetected as they are gradual and our body readjusts to consider them normal. However, one day, one thing gets out of whack and it leads to a cascade of other compensating issues; aches & pains, injuries and joint deterioration.
However along the way you may notice:
- you have reached a plateau in your favorite sport or in your fitness training
- you suffer muscular training injuries
- you have cut back on activities
- you feel like you are getting old before your time
- you have tendonitis, bursitis or early signs of arthritis
This is why Baseline is so valuable - Baseline can see the invisible!
A simple 10-minute Baseline Core Assessment will identify muscle imbalance that will affect your performance.
Your assessment results will be analyzed and you will be provided a series of simple stretches to help correct the imbalance. Additionally you will receive a guided 24-week core program to perform at home (5-10 minutes-a-day) that will enhance your fitness and sports performance as well as flatten your stomach.
|
BASELINE Core measures your progress along the way with 5 reassessments and modifies your program based on your progress. After you have achieved good core stabilization a simple periodic monitoring will enable you to maintain a balanced body for life.
The assessment is non-invasive to your body.
- If you are an avid athlete or recreational sports participant the Baseline Program is a must for you
- If you want to eliminate some of those reoccurring aches and pains and want better overall wellness the Baseline Program is a must.
